Being Social: The Weekend of 3.15.13

Happy St. Patrick’s Day weekend! There are a lot of Restaurants and Pubs with specials this weekend, as well as some Saint Patrick’s Day Parades!  For example, there is ShamROCKfest, a huge concert thing, and Shamrocks and shenanigans at Rumors, which will feature Bagpipers, Irish Dancers, and of course plenty of great drink specials all weekend long.Irish_clover


Besides a ton of booze, the DC Environmental Film Festival is running from now until the 24th. See documentary, feature, animated, archival, experimental and children’s films from around the world at a variety of venues around Washington, DC.

The National Shamrock Festival claims to be a day of family fun, and the largest Saint Patrick’s Day party and street festival in the DC area featuring more than 50 live bands.

The KODO Drummers of Japan will be performing at DAR Constitution Hall.

Hello again, fellow geeks! There’s a lot going on not only this weekend, but the following week as well.  Enjoy!

Saturday

Alexandria always ends up having an early St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  It’s a big one, though! [DC.about.com]

1-9pm

For those that enjoy flaunting the luck’o the Irish, the beer is flowing early for DC Leprechaun Lap.  This pub crawl features 21 Dupont bars with specials like $2 Coors Lights/$3 Blue Moons, strolling bagpipers, and thousands of Irish loving partiers.   Tickets are $9.

7pm

This is a tease because tickets are sold out, but it’s good to keep on your radar if you like this kind of thing: the Ninth Annual Brewer’s Ball brings together handcrafted microbrews from more than a dozen of the region’s best microbreweries and brewpubs and cuisine from several local restaurants. Proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. [DCist]

On Sunday and Monday, there will be a Pig Butchering Demo and Charcuterie and Beer Tasting. At this demo, you can see how to get different cuts, andhlearn how to use the cuts to make your own bacon, pancetta, and more.  Guests will also sample charcuterie such as porchetta, pancetta, tarese, coppa, and sopressata, paired with two artisanal beers. Through the 13th, the Francophonie Cultural Festival will be occurring.  Explore the diversity of the French-speaking world through concerts, theatrical performances, films, culinary tastings, literary salons, children’s workshops, and more. [DC.about.com]

Discover Engineering Family Day at the National Building Museum
February 16, 2013, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Take part in slime-making, day-long robot demonstrations and competitions, design bridges and helicopters, and much more. Free. $5 suggested donation. Most appropriate for children ages 5-13.

After surviving Valentine’s Day you will have CUPID CRAWL 2013 to look forward to. It’s located at Dupont Circle, and includes drink specials, a private sake bomb party, a private mega-dance party for the final stop, and more. Tickets are $14.

While it isn’t a big holiday, Monday is President’s Day, with many things to do.  Plus, most big chain stores should have the biggest sales we’ll see until Memorial Day.

Happy Hanukkah!  There are quite a few events in the Washington, DC Area.  Also the National Christmas tree is now alight.  It’s in front of the Capitol building.

This weekend is the last Sugarloaf Craft festival before the holidays! If you have someone that you have no idea what to get for them, you’ll find something here.  If you know what you want to get and it has to do with crafts or jewelry, you’ll find it here too.  Check it out if you haven’t been – it’s full of so much awesome stuff.  Please pack cash.  Admission is $10 but tickets are $8 if you buy them online.

Participate in the Embassy Row International Haunted Halloween Soiree at the The Hilton Washington Embassy Row hotel.  It will include a food drive, international music, and a costume contest! Tickets are $10.

LivingSocial’s 918 F Street (which I tried to book on this night, damn them!) they are having an EXPENSIVE 7 Deadly Sins Halloween Party.  For $59 you can have multi-floor cocktails, snacks, and entertainment.  Plus, another costume contest! [PoP]

Join the Halloween Zombie Movie Festival at the Half Street Fairgrounds In DC – Sat, Oct 27th, 2012 – ONLY $10 on Living Social!  The best part is it claims to have “DC’s Largest Halloween Party Zombie Hoard”.  Dude. Why are the hoarding zombies? There’s also food music, beer… the regular stuff that happens at the fairgrounds.
