17 Aug

It is sadly nearing the close of DC Beer Week.  The events can be found at City Paper.  Also,Summer DC Restaurant Week ends on the 21st, and August 17–26 Alexandria Restaurant Week ends the 26th.

In addition,  registration for the Social Sports of Alington Fall Sports leagues (co-ed Softball, Football, and Volleyball ) are now open, if you’re an athletic geek.(LindyPromo).  Besides that, we have:

Black Cat continues to be awesome, and has been holding weekly Dr. Who happy hours!! Watch one episode of Dr. Who & enjoy drink specials every Friday! /nerdchills.   It’s free, and at the ‘Backstage’ venue.

Right Round 80’s dance party will be on at Black Cat.
To finish DC Beer Week off right, Penn Social will be hosting the No Sleep Till Brooklyn Lager Party.  It’s meant to have cheap drinks and tunes spinning all night long. [PoP]

Bourbon Steak is having a Pig roast!  Unfortunately, it’s $60 a head. [DCist]
There will be an Alexandria Cambodian Community Day Festival around Old Town. It will include displays of traditional Cambodian arts, crafts, paintings, souvenirs, and food. []

Ongoing Geekdom:

  • The National Gallery of Art has once more begun its ‘Jazz in the Garden’ series.  This has jazz bands that play in the Sculpture Gardens and is quite the relaxing and entertaining affair.  Check it out if you get a chance!  It will be held every Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:30, through August 31st.
  • The Art of Video Games, which exhibits video games voted on by fans, is open at the American Art Museum through September 30th.   If you haven’t seen it, go.  It’s so dorkfully win.

Geek Look Ahead:

  • August 25 – October 21st the Maryland Renaissance Faire is back! A ways away, it is still epic awesome.  I’ll be going at least twice this  year.
  • Funky Fresh Foodie Fest is an amped up Truckeroo to be held August 25th. Tix are $60, which seems a bit steep to me.
  • Eighties Mayhem dance party August 25th at Black Cat.

  • DCGames Fest hosts a series of games on Washington D.C.’s National Mall on September 1
  • September 8-9 will host the 2012 Baltimore Comic-Con.

  • NekoCon is November 2-4.  Apparently it starts on the 2th.  I love the Japanese.
  • 9-11 November will be Anime USA here in the District. It’s by the zoo, so totally accessible. I’ve already pre-reg’d!

August 2013

  • Otakon will be late this year: August 9 – 11, 2013 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, MD.
