Being Social: the Weekend of 12.30.11

30 Dec
Are you ready for 2012?  I’m definitely not, but I know that I won’t be as busy next year as I am currently.
I shouldn’t even have to mention that nearly every bar and restaurant will be having New Year’s parties and specials this week.  I’ll go over my favourites in this weekend’s review.  Also! Don’t be stupid enough to drink and drive.  Especially since DC offers free cab rides home on New Year’s Eve!

No DD required!

SoberRide is a free taxi ride program provided by the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP). Taxi rides are free, up to a $30 fare. The SoberRide  Number is (800) 200-TAXI (8294).
December 30
It’s your last chance this weekend to see the National Geographic Society’s exhibit on Animal Grossology.  If you need an excuse to stop eating holiday goodies, checking this out may be your best bet. (WaPo)
December 31
Apparently a type of dance music called Moombahton was invented in Washington, DC two years ago.  U Street Music Hall will host this Moombahton Massive X with its inventor Dave Nada and other star DJs. Tickets are $15. (TheDistrict)
January 1
Watch some sport! The Redskins and Wizards will both be in town, trying to eke out a win.

I hope it snows!!

January 2
The NHL Winter Classic will be on!  The game’s in Philly this year, and will host the Fliers and NY Rangers.
Also, the Washington Shakespeare Company ‘Avant Bard’ will be having another Gala night in Klingon in March at the Artisphere.  “Klingon II: The Wrath of (Michael) Kahn,” raises crucial funds to keep the theater going. I havent been able to find a date, nor tickets, but they do sell out fast. If you find them, please let me know!  (Rosslyn BID)

Oh, the Holidays…

20 Dec

…have eaten my free time.

…well, that and Skyrim.

Until 2012, please be content with Patio Mario.  He is epic win and I will have one someday.

1-up for Effort!

Being Social: the Weekend of 12.09.11

Last weekend, the Dr. Seuss’s “Secrets of the Deep” Art Exhibition opened in Georgetown.  It’s free, and shows a bunch of Seuss’ personal art.  If you dig his stuff, check it out;it’ll be open until Christmas Eve!  Also this week, the National Zoo is getting glitzed up with lights!  There’s also ice skating and “Panda Claws”, a furry Santa!  Admission is free and the lights will be up until New Year’s.   And finally the Downtown Holiday Market at the Portrait Gallery is open!  It’s lined with awesome tent shops, and you can drop in to the Portrait Gallery or Spy Museum (or Gordon Biersh) while you’re there!

The Seventh Annual Wig Walk charity pub crawl will be going on in Adams Morgan. For $20 cheap drinks and pub crawling fun will be had!

There’s no better way to start your day than going to National Lager Day at the The Mighty Pint! The MP is offering $3 pints of Yuengling, Sam’s Winter Lager and Flying Dog Lager all day long! (via Metromix)

The DC Bronies are meeting up at the Southwest/Waterfront library.  There will be a Ponies, snacks, and a gift exchange; plus, I’ll be there!

Dress up like Santa… get drunk and go caroling?  I’ve heard of it before, and now’s your chance to try it out, at the 13th Annual Santa Stumble in Georgetown! (via WaPo

The DC Rollergirls will also be back in town, and will be in a doubleheader!  If you want to check them out, they will be at the DC Armory and tickets are a very reasonable $12. (via Metromix)

Wow! It’s Nerd Nite’s 2 year birthday party at DC9, and there will be a ton of discussion on veterinarians taking animals apart and putting them back together again.  Sounds fun to me. (via WaPo)

Even more Seuss!

The Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse will host a Christmas movie festival, which includes Chevy Chase, the Christmas Story, Scrooged, the Grinch, Charlie Brown and Elf.
